About Me

Talaria has allowed me the opportunity to conduct and write about a research topic that I am interested in regardless of the residency or citizenship status.

Research Experience

The first couple of weeks, I felt very unsure about my project. This as the first time that I had done a research paper on my own and so I was anxious on how I would finish an entire paper by myself on time. I also had to change my initial research topic due to a significant lack of literature on the topic. This also added to my initial nervousness. As I researched more and more, I felt more confident in my knowledge about this new topic. The more confident I felt on my knowledge the easier it was to articulate my findings and and research in the paper. My mentor also helped eased my initial uncertainties as she helped narrow down my field of research and guided me through the best way to break up such a large paper. It has shown me that there are significant gaps in the literature in terms of prosthetics and injury. The current data out is very general and focuses more on able-bodied athletes. Learning about this gap has motivated me to conduct or be involved in further studies that improve the safety of para-sports.

Mentorship Experience

Working with my mentor was a great experience. From the start she was very patient with me as my personal life faced some major changes which meant that I was unable to focus my full attention on TSI. But even with this initial hiccup, she helped me catch up to the speed to met the deadline. She helped give me access to literature that was blocked by a paywall, introduced me to software to ease in the reading and analyzing of the literature, and aided in splitting up the writing process of the paper. Lastly, she review and offered suggestions for the rough draft of my paper.

Favorite Part of Talaria

My favorite part was the ability to focus on a topic that really interest without having any requirements for it to fit an overall theme.

Who I Recommend Talaria For

A student that is passionate about their topic, flexible to changes, and open to critique from the mentors.
