Research Experience

Participating in Talaria has empowered me to start my own independent research project. This experience has provided me with the skills I need to do my own research so I feel confident enough to pursue my own interests and do research outside of Talaria. Talaria has made research more accessible. I was overwhelmed at the beginning because the research articles were long but I enjoyed reading and learning from those articles so it didn't feel as overwhelming as I initially thought. As I got into the hang of actually reading and writing it didn't feel so bad because I felt that I was understanding the literature I read and my writing on the literature was also well after my mentor provided feedback that I used to improve my future writing. Participating in Talaria has provided me the opportunity to learn new skills and I can confidently say that I feel that I have gained enough skills to continue more independent research projects.

Mentorship Experience

My mentor was really helpful, she provided me with the research articles and reviewed all the writing I did. Her feedback was instrumental to my final paper and growth as a researcher and writer. We met at an almost weekly basis and when our schedules didn't work out she stayed in touch via email and edits on my paper.

Favorite Part of Talaria

My favorite part about participating in Talaria was presenting my research project and learning about what other peers did. It was really impressive, interesting, and informative to learn from other Talaria mentees and present what I learned about this summer.

Who I Recommend Talaria For

I would recommend Talaria for a student who has a strong interest in STEM and wants to try research. I really enjoyed reading articles for my research project and writing my final paper because it demonstrates how much more knowledgable I have become in my field of interest.

Advice for Future Applicants

Apply! There is so much to be gained from doing research with a mentor. It may seem intimidating to do research within four weeks but your mentor will guide you and understand your lack of research experience. We're here to learn and there is a supportive community to guide you along the way and share your experience with.
