About Me

I mentioned that I lived in a less-resourced area, which put obstacles in my way, such as limited access to research materials and mentors. I also expressed that I had a negative impression of research, asa I used to perceive it as a Graduate-level matter.

Participating in Talaria has helped me to overcome my fear of academia. I now believe that I have what it takes to succeed in academia, and while the obstacles that I mentioned in the commencement survey have not changed, participating in Talaria has definitely helped me cross that fear bridge toward academia. It would be a significant marker in my scientific path.

Research Experience

At the beginning, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, as I was learning a lot of new information, while still trying to figure out what my project was going to be about. However, I was also excited about the opportunity to do research, and I was eager to learn more. As the program went on, my feeling about research and my project changed a lot throughout the program as I started to make progress, I also started to feel more connected to my project, and I felt like I was making a real contribution to science.

Mentorship Experience

My experience working with my mentor was amazing. She was incredibly supportive and knowledgeable, and she helped me to learn so much. and she always made me feel like I could ask her anything.

My mentor guided me in a number of ways. She helped me to develop my research question, she provided me with feedback on my work, and she helped me to navigate the research process. She was always there to offer support and guidance, and I am so grateful for her help.

Favorite Part of Talaria

My favorite part about participating in Talaria were the interactions with my mentor. She helped me overcome my fear of academia and showed me how helpful researchers can be. I'm now more determined to pursue an academic career.

Also, the sense of community is relatively sweet. I felt like I was part of something special, and I was surrounded by people who were passionate about science.

Who I Recommend Talaria For

I would recommend Talaria for any student who is interested in science and who is willing to work hard. It's a great opportunity to taste the rigor of academia as in conducting (relatively) independent research.

Advice for Future Applicants

If you are unsure whether or not to apply to Talaria, I would say that you should definitely apply! Talaria is a great opportunity to learn about research and to network with other students who are interested in science. The application process is not too difficult , and the program is very rewarding.

If you are just beginning your application, I would recommend that you start by brainstorming a research question that you are interested in. Once you have a research question and some background knowledge, you can start writing your application.
