About Me

Getting to participate in Talaria has absolutely changed that. I was able to connect with a mentor and be able to work with them remotely. I was able to complete all my responsibilities at home as well as research on my own time. Furthermore, I was able to get the initial exposure to research somewhat later in my high school career, whereas most high schools (including my own) do not offer research unless an early interest had been expressed. Talaria allowed me to get involved in a really in-depth way and explore a subject that I realized I had passion for later down the line.

Research Experience

I was extremely confused but also very intrigued. I absolutely loved getting to explore all the new resources my mentor provided me with and even begin to create some possible side-project ideas. The more I worked with my mentor, the easier it got. I was able to ask as many questions as I wanted, receive personalized feedback and take initiative to learn even more about my research topic. I started to get more and more confident in my abilities.

Mentorship Experience

It was incredible. I am a shy and curious person, which can be really contradicting traits, but I think my mentor made me feel really comfortable with asking questions and made me feel like I was truly making improvements. She was incredibly encouraging and kind throughout the program and provided me with invaluable experience. She encouraged me to make adjustments as needed and to overall be curious.

Favorite Part of Talaria

Honestly, all of it. But in particular, just getting encouraging words from my mentor and validation for all my hard work despite being an absolute beginner.

Who I Recommend Talaria For

Anyone who feels like they didn't have their passions sorted out at an early age or early stage in their high school life, and was denied future opportunities because of it. Also for anyone who feels like they want a full conceptual and technical dive into one of their passions.

Advice for Future Applicants

Just apply. It is absolutely worth taking every opportunity that you have to pursue a subject you love. If you have passion for what you want to learn, a will to improve and create something you can be proud of, you were made for Talaria.
