About Me

Participating in Talaria has given me the opportunity to engage with scientific articles that come from scientists and those already immersed in the field. With the guidance of my mentor, I learned to navigate this process and effectively comprehend the scientific heavy content!

Research Experience

During the first week of my project, I felt overwhelmed because I didn’t know where to start with finding sources and narrowing down what was important. This feeling changed throughout the program because my mentor was able to guide me through this process and ease the stress. We decided to start off with an outline, which she helped me edit after to get the important points across.

Mentorship Experience

My experience working with my mentor was great and memorable. She was eager to help me with the paper and really emphasized that. She guided me through writing the paper and making figures that are clear. I was also able to learn a bit about her postdoctoral work, as well as the day-to-day life of an individual working in a lab.

Favorite Part of Talaria

My favorite part about participating in Talaria was meeting a multitude of people from around the world with the shared interest of science. In addition to that, being able to be mentored through a scientific research paper is something that I would’ve never got if it wasn’t for Talaria! I love the environment my mentor set up, where she was always there to guide and support me. Her encouragement and guidance made this process of research less intimidating!

Advice for Future Applicants

This is definitely a fun experience! You get to learn a bit more about how to engage with science, more importantly, you are able to participate in scientific research! It’s also a great way to interact with people around the world and build meaningful bonds with them.
